WHAT IS MARKETING ? AND WHY SHOULD YOU CARE ?

“Marketing” the word in itself is a myth, countless professional marketers had spent their entire life to understand the law that governs the marketing domain. Marketing is a roller coaster that drives in and attracts populations from every segment of the society. Marketing is everywhere, from the very first tea sip of your day, to the newspaper you read, the motor vehicle you drive, the shoe you wear, the paint in your house, the clothes you wear and merely everything that you can feel or touch. Marketing is much more, than we can think of. So sit tight as I pen down some of more marketing facts that will surely heal some of your doubts concerning this beautiful roller coaster, MARKETING !!!!

From selling a candy costing Rs.10 to selling super cars costing crores of rupees, marketing is just a mean to an end. Even before selling, or we can say even before the product is been developed, marketing process get initiated. Marketing also do not end once the transaction is done, after service, retaining customers all these are impacted in a huge range by this particular domain itself.

It will be not wrong if we say marketing as the synonym to “Mass Trust”. Marketing is often mis conceptualised by some, it is said to be the game of words, the more you negotiate the more you gain, but if you ask my thoughts on this , I would say marketing the false product can’t be said as of a true marketing in a sense because marketing is a game of long run, and acquiring customers in the name of false words will not be able to sustain itself in that run. I will either go with a small number of customer to acquire my product or will try to improve my product to attract a large customer base.

So if we look back to certain times during recessions, that eliminated so many companies and products that couldn’t able to sustain itself in those periods and the ones who stood tight during those recession periods are now the leaders of the market and are evolving with time.

So what we learned from it ?

Marketing being the backbone of every business, it should also be planned with respect to the economic situation of the market. Not only keeping the present in mind but also keeping future ahead of present. Every single business is based on marketing. Even most trusted brands performs marketing when launching some new products in the market. Let say for the brand Apple, we witness every iPhone model launch with a huge marketing plan with a huge budget involved with it. Another example we can see the Turkish airlines, which collaborated with Warner’s Bro and took over 3 years to prepare a single ad of about 4 minutes, and these steps are also involved in the marketing strategies of the company.

So the next query you might have,

“Is the energy and work needed to be invested in, worth of it”?

I would not give a second thought and say you, YES. Because marketing and sales are rooted in human psychology and marketing is a game of perception. And marketing along with sales can only be performed by human brains. It is termed as the most valuable investment ever, as it gives you immediate return on investment. More you sale yourself, more you sale your product more you gain. No artificial intelligence can replace it. So once you are equipped with most of marketing strategies and processes, you became independent. You are now capable of running alone in the race. And rest will follow you, which eventually becomes your army. You mentor them, guide them and thus with sheer hard work and determination you can have the vision of becoming a CEO of any industry you want to be. All you need is patience at that very moment.

Digital marketing plays an dominant role nowadays in the market compared to last decade. It is certainly the most powerful weapon a marketer can obtain particularly after the entire world has been locked in a remote state. Any activity carried out using an electronic medium to promote products and services is digital marketing, it is mainly an internet based operations that seeks to sell or provide services for products. As earlier stated marketing provides instant ROI, but to be precise digital marketing specially among them is the email marketing or running campaigns on social media platform costs very little compared to traditional marketing and thus giving the best ROI.

Also Email marketing software enables users to control their email’s performance. They can understand how many have been sent, how many have been read and learn more about their conversion rates. Google analytics is a very efficient method on a website or blog to calculate unique objectives to be accomplished. Google AdWords Manager enables users to monitor the success of their google search advertisements, they can understand how many people watched their advertisements and learn more about their conversion rates. In traditional marketing, it is more rigid because it is important to sign a mountain of paperwork and in most instances, such deals are on a long or medium term basis. So even if a campaign does not work as planned, customers will still have to wait for the negotiated time to expire .

Thus if someone asks me to either go for digital marketing or traditional marketing, I’ll go for digital marketing without giving any second thoughts again.

So being a marketer I always felt an sense of honour to be able to work and deliver in this magical domain. Marketing domain is said to be a hell for a free rider and almost a heaven for people who values ethics, who believe in hard work, and the one who prefer to evolve with every passing day. People enjoys various services now sitting in their homes better compared to the services people were acquiring a decade ago. And marketing did played a major role in providing this service. People who believed in sheer determination and hard work became independent and are earning huge amounts in 6 to 7 digits per months. Thus marketing draws out customer’s secret desires, stimulates new demand, locates untapped markets and explores the possibilities for new goods to be sold. It therefore opens the market and encourages manufacturers to increase production and gain more profit then ever after.
